DateSafe Program
1 in 3 teens knows someone who has been hit, kicked, slapped or choked by his or her dating partner.
1 in 11 high school students reports being physically hurt by someone they were dating.
Intimate partner violence occurs in teen dating relationships at almost triple the rate of adult relationships. It happens to males, females, straights, gays and lesbians. It happens at home and at school. Some call it an epidemic. But while it occurs so frequently, teens are much less likely to report it. They're embarrassed, ashamed, guilty - they think it's their fault. They think they’re alone.
SAVE’s DateSafe DVD encourages teens to speak out if they experience physical, verbal, or emotional abuse.
A project of Leadership Fremont Class of 2008 and SAVE, the DateSafe DVD was created to prevent teen dating violence and to provide resources to teens that may already be in a violent relationship. The DVD complements SAVE’s existing Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program.
The DVD is available through SAVE by emailing info@save-dv.org or calling 510-574-2250
