Calendar - Special
Events - Vigil and Press Conference
Join SAVE for a
vigil and press conference on the recent domestic violence related crimes that
occurred in our own community.
Thursday, December 7
6-7 PM
Fremont Family Resource Center (Millennium Room)
39155 Liberty Street, Suite A120
In the past two weeks, Fremont's Ardenwood
neighborhood saw two incidents of domestic violence spin out of
control and into the headlines:
"A 6-year-old boy abducted by his father...who police
said has a criminal history of domestic violence, was arrested just
after midnight Friday...Ralph Baldenegro went to his ex-girlfriend's
home on Friar Avenue in Fremont's Ardenwood neighborhood, physically
and sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl - who was alone in the
home - and then bound her with duct tape." (Oakland Tribune,
November 11)
"A 62-year-old man was clinging to life Wednesday, a
day after he killed his wife, shot and wounded his mother-in-law and
then was beaten nearly to death by his two adult sons...Although
relatives told police that Wazir Rahim has a history of domestic
violence, authorities said no incidents appeared to be documented."
(Fremont Argus, November 23)
Domestic violence is a crime that often goes
unreported until it reaches a deadly level.
Experts from Narika, SEMAH, the Afghan Coalition, and
SAVE will elaborate on the underlying issues present in all cases of
domestic violence and call for community support in addressing the
need for education and other prevention activities to stop domestic
violence before it starts. |
